The discography of Pink Floyd, a British progressive rock band, consists of fifteen studio albums, three live albums, nine compilation albums, four box sets, five extended plays, and twenty-seven singles. Formed in 1965, Pink Floyd initially earned recognition for their psychedelic or space rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. They are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art, and elaborate live shows.

Pink Floyd - Obscured By Clouds (1972).

Of course, no Pink Floyd album would be complete without a concept, and The Division Bell seems to be about that old standby failure to communicate. Even through the vagueness of the lyrics, one gets the feeling the band is firing broadsides at Waters. The album also gives off the uncomfortable whiff of middle-age and graying sensibilities. Gilmour, who has become Pink Floyd’s de facto leader, in particular seems bored or dispirited. His guitar solos were once the band’s centerpieces, as articulate, melodic and well-defined as any in rock. The band seems to be padding at every opportunity. Consequently, The Division Bell will satisfy only the most ravenous Pink Floyd fan. Standing almost in mockery of the swipes the band members have taken at one another is the new three-disc box set Crazy Diamond, which collects the decidedly eccentric post-Floyd musings of original member Syd Barrett.

Pink Floyd claim they had no intention of recording another live album when they began the Division Bell tour, but performing. A large part of Pink Floyd's live show is based on the always impressive visuals; on the Division Bell tour, they closed each show with an unprecedented laser extravaganza. Consequently, an audio version of this concert, separated from the visuals, is disappointing. Pink Floyd play the greatest hits and the new songs professionally, yet the versions differ only slightly from the original recordings, making Pulse a tepid experience. Tracklist: DTS-CD #1.

How would an instrumental ambient album of Pink Floyd called The Endless River sound like? This is our version, our tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time. Hope you enjoy it. The album was Pink Floyd’s debut record and was released on August 5th 1967. The cover photo was shot by photographer Vic Singh. The photo was shot through the glass of a prism lens. The concept of the artwork was to mimic the visualized response of an LSD trip. In 1967, LSD was a popular drug used by the youth culture that intertwined within the concepts of psychedelic music and art. What was most interesting about the cover shoot besides the concepts of psychedelia was that the prism glass was given to the photographer by The Beatles George Harrison. The Pink Floyd box set Shine On defined the process and intent of the cover of Meddle. On the cover was a picture of an ear underneath the water.

Pink Floyd’s third album is also its first without erratic founding member Syd Barrett, and it finds the band leaning heavily on recent addition David Gilmour. The results are wildly uneven, with psych-tinged, pastoral folk ballads pressed up uncomfortably against avant-garde sound experiments. Ummagumma may not be the worst record of Floyd’s diverse early days, but it’s likely their most scattershot. It’s a double album, the first part of which features live versions of classics such as Careful with That Axe, Eugene and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. The second record, though, is all original studio work with a quirky, ill-advised concept: four solo LP sides from each of the four members of Pink Floyd. The results of this avant-garde experiment are pretty wide-ranging: some gorgeous (Rick Wright’s piano-laden Sysyphus Pt.

I love every Pink Floyd album. This one, however, is my favourite. More has amazing instrumentals, mellow songs, sublime vocals, blasting rockers, psychedelics, bit or blues and spanish to form a very diverse album. A decent album of great Pink Floyd songs. Good for new listeners just to understand what Pink Floyd music is really like. A foot in the door is more just hits and radio favourites.

The first Pink Floyd album not to feature founder and bassist Roger Waters, A Momentary Lapse of Reason represented a definite transition to a new phase in the band’s long history. It came in the midst of a tumultuous period of lawsuits and name-calling between Waters and his former band mates, led by vocalist and guitarist David Gilmour. Waters officially left the band in December 1985 and tried to officially dissolve the Pink Floyd name with his departure, but Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason wanted to continue with new projects by the band. The album’s music originated from sessions for a new Gilmour solo album in 1985, which were recorded primarily on Gilmour’s converted houseboat, called Astoria, anchored on the River Thames. Gilmour changed his mind in 1986 and decided to use the material for a new Pink Floyd album when Mason joined the project.
