Exposure is the debut solo album by guitarist and composer Robert Fripp. Unique among Fripp solo projects for its focus on the pop song format, it grew out of his previous collaborations with David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, and Daryl Hall, and the latter two singers appear on the album. Released in 1979, it peaked at No. 79 on the Billboard Album Chart. Most of the lyrics were provided by the poet and lyricist Joanna Walton, who was later killed on Pan Am Flight 103.

This album was originally concieved as the third part of an MOR trilogy with Daryl Hall's solo album 'Sacred Songs' and Peter Gabriel II both of which I produced and to which I contributed. Recorded mainly and mixed entirely at The Hit Factory, New York between January 1978 and January 1979. Track for 'Exposure' recorded at Relight Studios, November 1977. Water Music II' recorded at The House Of Music, New Jersey, July 1977.

Robert FRIPP notes on "Exposure" that the album was "originally conceived as the third part of an MOR trilogy" - his work on Peter GABRIELl's second album and Darryl Hall's "Sacred Songs" being the first two parts. Exposure" is FRIPP's most commercially successful solo album, actually charting in the US and UK, but he clearly had second thoughts about pandering to commercial tastes before creating this

Exposure" is a rock music solo album by guitarist Robert Fripp, best-known as the only constant member of the progressive rock band King Crimson. Released in 1979, it peaked at on the "Billboard" Album Chart. Exposure" consists of compositions embracing hard rock, ambient music, ballads, and "musique concrète", and includes contributions from a variety of recording artists

Robert Fripp: Exposure by John Kelman, published on June 18, 2006. When King Crimson Robert Fripp disbanded the group in 1974, it seemed as though he'd grown tired of being its de facto leader. But he remained active, performing with artists as diverse as Brian Eno, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates and Blondie. While listeners who'd lost touch with him after King Crimson were undoubtedly shocked, those who continued following him were not at all surprised when his first solo album, Exposure, was released in 1979.

Robert Fripp's solo debut, originally released in 1979, Exposure is not only an important release historically in terms of influencing much music to come, including post-punk popular groups of today, it also is a who's who of guest musicians from Daryl Hall to Peter Gabriel, Peter Hammill, Terre Roche, Brian Eno, Tony Levin, Phil Collins, Narada Michael Walden, Jerry Marotta . Enough has been written about the importance of this album and how it has stood the test of time. It says something about this listener's growth, at least; when I first heard Exposure in high school, I called it the biggest waste of talent on record, given the roster of musicians playing on it yet the distinctly non-Crimson results
