The Boomtown Rats are an Irish rock band that had a series of Irish and UK hits between 1977 and 1985. The group is led by vocalist Bob Geldof. The other members of the original line-up were Garry Roberts (lead guitar), Johnnie Fingers (keyboards), Pete Briquette (bass), Gerry Cott (rhythm guitar) and Simon Crowe (drums). The Boomtown Rats broke up in 1986, but reformed in 2013, without Johnnie Fingers or Gerry Cott.
Dave, a single on The Boomtown Rats' sixth studio album, is about the band’s saxophone player, David McHale. This song is a message to tell ‘Dave’ that he should keep going and try to get through life. It was written in response to McHale having a mental breakdown after his girlfriend’s death. One of the songs to be altered on In The Long Grass, can be viewed here: "Dave" Track Info. In the Long Grass The Boomtown Rats.

I've swallowed it now and trying to move on. However, I have been prompted to move too by Bobby Boomtown himself who has pushed me into a project with one of the Rats' old friends from Dublin who is going to make a 'history of the Rats' type documentary; so if any of you have old footage (super 8 etc), posters/flyers that can be copied and sent or rare. Back to gigs soon and we all on tip toes for the forthcoming album.
Official video for 'The Boomtown Rats - Dave'. 21 czerwca będę się mógł osobiście przekonać jak się posunął. Rain was a re-recorded version of Dave and released on the US version of "In the Long Grass" a year later in 1985. great song by an underestimated great band. This is a shame that it had to change from the original song "Rain".
