David Clark (born 15 December 1939 or 1942) is an English musician, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. Clark was the leader, drummer and manager of the 1960s beat group the Dave Clark Five, the first British Invasion band to follow the Beatles to America in 1964. In 2008 Clark and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1964, Dave Clark Five's raucous beat-driven pop was the only rival to the Beatles' nascent British Invasion. Over the course of their short career (they disbanded in 1970), they created songs that would go on to sell over one hundred million copies. Driven by Dave Clark's front-and-center drumming and Mike Smith's gravelly unhinged vocals, the group knocked out hits like "Bits and Pieces", Glad All Over" and "Because" - hitting the American top 40 over a dozen other times in a three year period.

The Dave Clark Five have long been given short shrift by history, consigned to the "Merseybeat" category. But hits like "Glad All Over," "Bits and Pieces," and the gorgeous "Because" still stand out as classy pop records. On the other hand, the DC5's cover of the Contours' "Do You Love Me" stands out as one of the more unbridled, edgy English singles of the sixties. The band actually had a winning way with both more rocking material and softer, poppier sides. release, with that album being the most famous album never released for years until he finally relented and gave the world the wonderful "Smile" box set. Perhaps the Dave Clark Five were the third great band of this triumvirate. Beatlemania was in full swing, and history tends to forget the DC5 were around as long, and were creating more than just a little havoc on their own as they toured and sold millions of records
