Red Planet Alvvays are two women, three men, a crate of cassettes and a love of jingle-jangle. Molly Rankin and Kerri MacLellan grew up as next-door neighbours in Cape Breton, lifting fiddles and folk-songs. Heartbreaks of different shades soon entered their lives, as did the music of Teenage Fanclub and Belle & Sebastian. As a result, their debut self-titled album is both sun-splashed and twilit - nine songs concealing drunkenness, defeat and death in tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass.

Wish I had read the other reviews. Got a brand new copy, washed it and put it on (dry of course). I know this album well. Listened to it dozens of times on headphones and on my system. Vinyl has surface noise and is mastered poorly. Muddy and distorted In parts. A little EQ-ing can help get it closer. The style of the music helps hide it slightly at times but as a fan, this is pretty disappointing.

Love the music, but as others noted, this pressing doesn't sound very good. It's not nearly as bad as the Polyvinyl "Antisocialites" PRC-334 yellow I should have mailed back (too lazy). That is darn near unlistenable...….seems criminal to put out such bad representations of such exceptional music. I will avoid Polyvinyl like an urgent care waiting room. They are very pretty though....haha :)

Does anyone else's copy sound really muddy and flat? It sounds great digitally. Is it the goddamn colored vinyl or the mastering dude? Noticed AC - MPP sounded crap too.

Yeah, my marble orange record sounds very off. Not sure the reason. It's more noticeable on side A.
