The Michael Garrick Quintet featuring Joe Harriott And Shake Keane, Poetry And Jazz In Concert - Record One This album was the answer of US Beatnik scene from UK. It was live recorded at Decca’s studio 1964 with the poetry reading by Adrian Mitchell and Dannie Abse. On this record one, the opener of side A ‘Salvation March’ was played by quintet, separated from poetry reading. This song is great hand clapping jazz, typical of Michael Garrick. On the last poetry part was collaboration with jazz band. B side started from the poetry reading part.

Garrick formed a sextet in 1965 and recorded the album Promises for Argo/Vocalion that year with Harriott on alto sax, Ian Carr on trumpet, Tony Coe on tenor, and Coleridge Goode on bass. Before Night/Day and the treasured Black Marigolds both appeared in 1966; the latter featured Coe and Harriott.
