The Nude Party congealed as one unit in the southern mountain town of Boone, NC in 2013 and gained their namesake very literally. Bonded by isolation, house party debauchery, a religion based on pushing the limits of bad taste, and a precocious predisposition towards the Kinks, the Animals and the Velvets, they have burgeoned into a rock and roll act to be reckoned with. As the hysteria at their local shows steadily increases, so does their reputation with local law enforcement, forcing them daily more to seek employment anywhere but home.
The Nude Party isn't going to blow any minds with its uniqueness. This feels like the band’s fifth album, not their first, and that’s an enormous compliment.
The Nude Party’s self-titled debut is an exercise in a rules be damned, we’re gonna do this one our way mentality, stripped of any calculated need to fit into the current music scene. From the wandering guitar and keyboards lines to the group sing-alongs, the record is 11 tracks of pure bliss. The third song, Chevrolet Man, about a band ignoring conventional wisdom and following their own path, is the song that hooks you from the start, but the rest of the album pays off on the promise offered from that lead single. The band has a chameleon-like knack for changing sounds track to track
The Nude Party releases this Friday via New West Records, and it shows that this ultimate party band can bring the goods in recorded form as well. The album crackles with energy and feels a bit like the Faces fronted by a post-punk singer. Influences run from the 1960s right up through the present, while the band proves rock is long from dead.
