Devastator : Aftermath is a monster of a track, and I don't mean the fact it runs for over 11 minutes! I'd like to preface this by saying the various kickdrums, amazing drum patterns, crazy percussion and everything done to keep the beat interesting is dazzling to say the least. Speed Freak does this regularly with his music, so his beat selection is excellent on its own. The first part of the track seems to sample a Horror movie and a seamless 210 bpm starts proceedings with a great sample from MARRS, Pump Up The Volume. The "Sounds You Are About To Hear May Be Devastating To Your Ear" sample is from the 1980 Hip Hop track, Raptivity by Ronnie Gee. There is an unusually long sample from a Hip Hop track that works well at this BPM, it's then followed by a sharp Techno-ish synth which also sounds great. The Hip Hop beats are lovely too. This perfectly sets up the rest of the track, which only gets better....... After a public service announcement by the Decepticons' leader Megatron, there is a tremendously epic and beautifully dark choir breakdown! Simultaneously you get chills down your spine and/or the hair on the back of neck stand up, regardless, it will affect the back part of your body in some way. It sounds like a film score at an important or intense part of a movie. On the other end of the breakdown, there's a much lower or relaxed version of the choir sample, it still sounds amazing if not slightly eerie. The Chuck D sample from Welcome To The Terrordome on Fear Of A Black Planet is the cherry on top. The rest of the track is dominated by spurts of Speed Freak Speedcore and the showcasing of Speed Freak's crazy kickdrums. My favourite Speed Freak track of the 21st Century on a label that I have little interest in. I was a big fan of the Transformers when I was younger, I even had the Devastator toy, a prized possession of my youth.
