Confounding some fans, Iron Maiden refuse to coast on their old hits, and have made another knotty, impressive album. Their 16th studio album continues the trend. The succinct and punchy single Speed of Light turns out to be a decoy. half of that time is taken up by three songs. One, the closing Empire of the Clouds, goes on for more than 18 minutes
The Book of Souls is the first double album of Iron Maiden's four-decade career. The fact that Maiden were so creatively inspired that they'd craft a work longer than most romantic comedies is enough to bring a tear to any fan's eye, but the quality of the album itself will make you weep with joy. Truncated by Bruce Dickinson-penned tracks, The Book of Souls soars right away with "If Eternity Should Fail," arguably the strongest opening Maiden have put to an album since "Moonchild" introduced Seventh Son of a Seventh Son back in 1988.

IRON MAIDEN "The Book of Souls". Consider the titles of MAIDEN's previous three slabs. While "Dance of Death", "A Matter of Life and Death" and "The Final Frontier" are all worthy IRON MAIDEN albums, subjectivity prevails in fan attitudes toward those recordings. The opening of "If Eternity Should Fall" is an awkward splash of squelchy synths, but hang through it. Bruce Dickinson is there to hold your hand as the trusted voice of guidance he is and the band plants down soon enough, staking a traditional MAIDEN march through the 8:28 endeavor.
Metal legends Iron Maiden have announced the release of their new album, The Book of Souls, for later this fall. The album will set a couple of milestones for the group: It will be the band’s first-ever double studio LP and also feature the sextet’s longest-ever song. The 92-minute album will be released on September 4th, a date predicated on frontman Bruce Dickinson getting time to recover from his recent bout with tongue cancer. He got the all clear last month. We’re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it, Dickinson added. We started working on the album in late summer 2014 and recorded it at Guillame Tell Studios in Paris, where we’d done the Brave New World album back in 2000, so the studio holds special memories for all of us. We were delighted to discover the same magical vibe is still alive and very much kicking ther. .
