Jimmy Edgar - Majenta Nomadic sex fiend Jimmy Edgar has found a new home at Hotflush, but not a whole lot has changed in his purple-hued world of robot decadence. Majenta is scantily clad in the same skeletal synth funk, though it was apparently conceived in a passionate flurry of creativity rather than the belaboured nature of his previous works. My rhythm is a physical motion," he sang on previous album XXX, but that dubious lyric has never felt more relevant than on Majenta, where Edgar's sex addict schtick finally feels in tune with the beats. He's still no Prince, but he's more enjoyable than ever as just Jimmy Edgar. Published, Fri, 11 May 2012.

That is to say, Jimmy Edgar is insatiable. He loves talking about sex, singing about sex, referencing sex. This is a man whose most notable track in his eight years with Warp was titled "I Wanna Be Your STD", and who called his last album XXX (only after he decided to change it from its working title, Deeper). Unfortunately, more than mediocre tracks or throaty sexual goofs, what does in Majenta is its scattershot nature. There's no flow to the way the album's sequenced, to the point where it seems purely arbitrary.
Jimmy Edgar will release a new album in May, his first in nearly in two years. Magenta will be released on Hotflush, the Berlin based label operated by Paul Rose, aka Scuba, and is made up of 11 distinct manifestos. Inspired by Edgar’s recent explorations of ..
