Collective Soul released their eighth studio album, another self-titled, but designated on August 25, 2009 with Roadrunner Records a subsidiary of their previous label Atlantic Records. Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid was one of the first major albums Matt Serletic (Matchbox20) produced. Before it was an MTV and chart success, the album was released on a small indie label in Atlanta, GA, called Rising Storm Records. Their initial version includes one song not on the Atlantic Records version, the orchestral ballad "Beautiful World. This is a reverse of the typical process - usually, major labels insist on an extra track for their releases. In this case, early fans were rewarded for obtaining the original version.

Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, Collective Soul’s first album, was originally a collection of Ed Roland’s demos, released on an indie label. As the demo spread, interest grew and they were picked up by Atlantic Records. The song Shine quickly gained popularity, reaching 11 on the Billboard charts in 1994 and the band toured with Aerosmith in that year. Background and release. Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid was recorded in a basement in 1992 as a promotional demo. Frontman Ed Roland hoped to simply sell the songs to a publishing company rather than form a band. He gave the demo to a small college radio station in Atlanta which began playing "Shine. Consequently, Collective Soul would regard their self-titled 1995 studio album under Atlantic as the band's official debut. Roland told Metal Edge, "It's so funny for people to compare the two.
