An oft-overlooked piece of the LA pop-psych jigsaw, this 1967 oddity combines typically complex vocal arrangements by the legendary Curt Boettcher with virtuoso guitar interludes from LA session legend Mike Deasy, and features backing from the team responsible for the landmark Millennium and Sagittarius LPs. A truly deranged mixture of cover versions and originals, it's presented here complete with four ultra-rare bonus tracks from non-album 45s, making it an essential purchase for fans of sunshine pop and psychedelia. He was also a huge influence on The Rolling Stones, and Wild Horses was written about him. Anyone playing Country-Rock today owes a debt to the late and great Gram.

Friar Tuck & His Psychedelic Guitar. Consisting of about half covers and half originals, the album could hardly be considered truly psychedelic (mostly thanks to the Boettcher vocals) but it is quite interesting in its own way. Deasy's arrangements are strange and wonderful with some hot guitar playing and liberal use of the echoplex. He gives "Louie Louie," the quintessential simple rock & roll tune, a wildly elaborate arrangement, virtually re-creating the tune entirely

"Friar Tuck And His Psychedelic Guitar" is in actuality a solo album for Wrecking Crew guitarist Mike Deasy. The "Friar Tuck" persona was one of several that Deasy would assume for various reasons including contract issues using his own name. Deasy would actually dress up as a monk complete with hooded cloak. Another persona he would dress up as was as a mountain man and most of the time he would wear a white meditation gown while doing recording sessions in the studios of Los Angeles. He can been seen in the background with this white gown on the Elvis Singer Christmas Special aka the 68 Comeback Special.

Not sure that a MONO copy of this LP really exists. Was told by someone who did some research that only the white label promo MONO copies are truly mono that the regular mono copies even with a Mono cover and Mono labels are actually stereo. My copy has mono cover and labels but is actually stereo. In fact my MONO white label promo copy with mono cover and labels is actually Stereo too.
