Kansas City" is a rhythm and blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller in 1952. First recorded by Little Willie Littlefield the same year, the song later became a hit when it was recorded by Wilbert Harrison in 1959. Kansas City" became one of Leiber and Stoller's "most recorded tunes, with more than three hundred versions," with several appearing in the R&B and pop record charts.

He made his recording debut in 1977 appearing on his father’s album Heartaches and Pain and also on Eddie C. Campbell’s King of the Jungle. It was around that time that he formed The Sons of Blues with musicians including Billy Branch on harmonica. This enraged Greer, and the consequent argument led to their permanent estrangement. Greer continued to play, mainly as a free-lance drummer, working with musicians such as Johnny Hodges, Red Allen, J. C. Higginbotham, Tyree Glenn, and Brooks Kerr, as well as appearing in films, and briefly leading his own band.
