Ormandy's 1965 recording of Mahler's "Das lied Von der erde" is excellent in orchestral playing and sound. I found it very satisfying even if Alto Lilli Chookasian is not the vocal equal of Kathleen Ferrier in Bruno Walter's very famous 1952 Vienna Philharmonic recording (Decca). But some listeners will go for Walter/VPO or ia (EMI) with Christa Ludwig and Fritz Wunderlich; both Walter and Klemperer were Mahler students which many believe makes their recordings authoritative.
