A Night on the Town is Rod Stewart's seventh album, released in 1976. The cover art is based on Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting Bal du moulin de la Galette, with Stewart inserted in the centre in period costume. On 30 June 2009, Rhino reissued the album as a two-disc CD with bonus tracks. Stewart performed "Big Bayou" regularly with The Faces during their final US tour the previous year, although that version was based on the one Ronnie Wood released on his solo album, Now Look.

Superficially, this seems true, but A Night on the Town has a crucial difference: despite its party-hearty title, this album finds Stewart folding folk back into his sound, a move that deepens the music tonally and emotionally, particularly in the case of "The Killing of Georgie (Pts. 1 & 2)," Rod's most ambitious original.
But this album’s best song, Tonight’s the Night, is defensible both logically and technically. One of many tributes to Sam Cooke, Stewart’s soul music inspiration, it is also his closest approximation of that sound. The strings, for once, are perfect - only Cooke or Stewart could swing through such syrup with so little effort and so much power. The guitar figure has the kind of pop elegance that characterized Abbey Road; the drumming is as confident as the singing. The quality of the nonoriginal rock is another problem - here’s where my personal attraction to his music creates confusion. I like the idea of doing Pretty Flamingo as a mock tango, but no one else I know does. And I prefer Ron Wood’s version of Big Bayou but like The Wild Side of Life better than Hank Thompson’s country classic original. Trade Winds, the ballad that closes the fast side, is more banal than incongruous.
Pedro Town is the major settlement on the island. San Pedro's populace has grown to 10,000 plus year-round inhabitants, with many newcomers from the mainland and from abroad as well. The original "San Pedranos" (from the 1800's til the 1970's or so) are Mestizo, and and speak both Spanish and English. The streets are home to local and visiting barefoot strollers, casually making their way through the shops and restaurants or just relaxing and chatting with the locals who are friendly and tolerant. To see the many faces of the island, see the Kay Scott FACES & PLACES OF SAN PEDRO online photo gallery. A few taxis, trucks and private vehicles are in service in the growing community, and the newly formed traffic committee is hard pressed to create an equitable policy regarding importation of future vehicles.
