In 1978, Brady released his first solo album, Welcome Here Kind Stranger, which won him critical acclaim and was awarded the Melody Maker Folk Album of the Year. However, it would prove to be Brady's last album covering traditional material. He decided to delve into pop and rock music, and released his first album of this genre in 1981, Hard Station. I like this a lot. I don’t think any of the versions of the songs or tunes are necessarily better than the studio versions but they have that energy that comes from live performance. Paul Brady assembled a little supergroup for this live recording. There’s Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Noel Hill, Paddy Glackin, Matt Molloy and Liam O’Flynn. The concert took place in 1978. This album was released in 2001. It was worth the wait. Several of these tunes including Paddy’s Green Shamrock Shore, Jackson and Jane, and The Creel were first released by Paul Brady on his 1978 album "Welcome Here Kind Stranger". This was never released on CD because the master recordings were lost until very recently. com as digital downloads. To launch Welcome Here Kind Stranger, Brady gave a concert on July 21, 1978 at Liberty Hall, Dublin. With the help of Irvine, Lunny, Liam O'Flynn, Matt Molloy, Paddy Glackin and Noel Hill, he presented the music from the album, minus "Young Edmund In The Lowlands Low" and "The Boy On The Hilltop/Johnny Goin' To Ceilidh", but adding "The Jolly Soldier", "Mary and the Soldier", "The Crooked Road to Dublin/The Bucks of Cranmore" and his own version of. "Arthur McBride"
