Leisure is the debut studio album by the English rock band Blur, released in August 1991 by record label Food. The original version of "Sing", entitled "Sing (To Me)", was recorded as a demo in late 1989 under the band's former name, Seymour, and can be heard on the ultra-rare promo-only single which was released over a decade later in February 2000 and on the first of 4-disc set with rare material in the Blur 21 box set.

Album description: Blur’s debut in 1991 – a mix of abstract My Bloody Valentine-style noise, psychedelic tunefulness and classic British pop, reflecting the use of a handful of different producers. The album features many songs dating from Blur’s earlier incarnation as Seymour, including Sing and first single She’s So High, a song written during their first rehearsal together. Blur’s first UK top ten hit, There’s No Other Way is also featured, marking the beginning of a long association with producer, Stephen Street. Album Store: Official Blur Store

Notes

On the U.S. version of the album, "I Know" was added to replace the removed song "Sing" (the latter was on the U.K. version of the album but was removed because it was considered too "arty" for the U.S. market.) "I Know" is a baggy, danceable song and was originally one of the two A-sides (with "She's So High") on Blur's debut UK single.

Just Gazing at Their ShoesWriting their debut Leisure Blur aspired to be shoegazing kings and painstakingly followed in the footsteps of My Bloody Valentine and early Jesus and Mary Chain of Psychocandy epoch. Graham Coxon thoroughly trampled guitar pedals gazing under his feet, trying to squeeze out maximum of fuzzy guitar noise and Damon Albarn provided vocals in plaintive, complaining voice and some keyboard background. Having some practice in sharpening irony in which he later became a master Albarn sings: "Bang goes another year in and out of one ear" but unlike this song proposed Blur came into one ear and stayed there.
