The English rock band the Beatles auditioned for Decca Records at Decca Studios in West Hampstead, north London on 1 January 1962. They were rejected by Decca which selected Brian Poole and the Tremeloes.

The Beatles' audition for Decca Records is the most controversial recording session in the history of popular music. INCLUDES A PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED LENNON/McCARTNEY TRACK This long awaited album also contains the only known recording of the lost Lennon/McCartney composition ‘Loved’ which has never before been released on record. Also featured on the album are the best of the historic Polydor Beatles recordings with Pete Best on drums plus the original mono version of Love Me Do, the Beatles first single, which controversially was recorded with three drummers, Pete Best, Ringo Starr and session man Andy White all taking turns on the drum stool.
On January 1, 1962, nearly a full year before the release of their debut single, the Beatles unsuccessfully auditioned for Decca Records. The historical significance of this tape is vast; it illustrates where the Beatles were at this crucial juncture of their career.
