The band have achieved both critical and fan acclaim over the last 5 years but with such a prolific output of stellar studio albums, the clamor for more lives shows was only bound to happen. While the band have promised more live shows in the future, for now we have a brilliant live album that shows why more live performances are in such high demand.
Grand Tour is the twelfth studio album by the English progressive rock band Big Big Train. It contains all new songs unlike the previous, The Second Brightest Star. Thematically it broadens the lyrical landscape for the group into the European world, previously having a largely domestic British focus. It moves from English folklore and landscape, to the 17th and 18th century habit of well-to-do Europeans going on the 'Grand Tour' to experience a wider circle of art and science.

Big Big TrainMerchants of Light★★★★☆Travis & FrippBetween the Silence★★★★☆Aside from the occasional dark side of Roger Waters concept splurge, prog rock today mostly plies its trade away from the pop spotlight. And far from the glare lurk the impressive, if unpromisingly named, Big Big Train. Formed in 1990 in Bournemouth, for 17 years they did not play a live show. Although they are the darlings of Prog, the genre’s house magazine, their concerts remain fleetingly rare. Merchants of Light documents last year’s sole weekend of shows, received with cultish enthusiasm at the Cadogan Hall, London.
I dig listening to all of those talented musicians on all of there musical drops. Merchants of Light is NO exception! I like coming home, opening the windows and turn up "The Second Brightest Star" or other fantastic albums from these virtuosos. An excellent live album - has the energy of a live concert with the sonic quality of a studio album. Flawless performances from the band. If you're already a fan of Big Big Train, it's definitely worth adding to your collection. And if you're not yet a fan, it's a great album to get a feel for what this band is all about.
